Increasing Civic Engagement - Encourage civic engagement through regular town hall meetings, virtual community forums, and hosting regular open office hours.

Increasing Access to Public Information - Prioritize access to public information by keeping residents informed of City Council business through virtual council sessions, open data, social media, and e-newsletters.

Reducing Organizational Silos - Reduce organizational silos by encouraging city departments to work together cohesively, lessen bureaucratic red tape, and help assure fiscal responsibility.

Encouraging Good Government - Promote good government by guaranteeing access to public meetings and ensuring Council Members discuss city matters in public in accordance with the Brown Act

Clean Energy Alliance (CEA) - Priya has represented Carlsbad on the Clean Energy Alliance (CEA), a joint power authority with the cities of Solana Beach & Del Mar, as the primary and alternate member. She voted to pass a 50% renewable energy/75% carbon-free energy mix as the default option for ratepayers in the City of Carlsbad because it provides maximum flexibility and still provides savings.

Flexible Options are Important - From an environmental justice standpoint and equity lens, Priya believes that having flexible options is important when it comes to transitioning to 100% renewable and carbon-free energy.

Businesses and Sustainability - Priya facilitated conversations between environmental organizations and local businesses including, LEGOLAND, for the entities to work together to reduce and eventually transition away from the use of single-use plastics.

Advocating for Green Alternatives - As a Board Member of the North County Transit District, Priya has advocated providing green alternatives for transportation accessible and affordable, while continuing to build our public transit infrastructure in North County San Diego.

Veterans - Having grown up in the district, Priya knows how expensive it can be to live here and how out of reach it can seem, even for those who have called the district home their whole lives.

North County Homeless Action Plan - When Priya sat on the North County Homeless Action Plan Subcommittee, she advocated for funding increases in North County from the County Board of Supervisors for local jurisdictions.

Smart Growth - In order to meet the needs of the community and provide housing options for those who have called Carlsbad their home, Priya is thinking of innovative ways to provide more options for starter homes that are in and around transit, close to amenities, and schools.

Affordable Housing - We need more affordable housing and we need to ensure that they take into consideration the infrastructure around them, while balancing the need for open space. Moreover, preserving our city’s character through smart growth strategies and investments in community programs is key.

Health and Safety - Improve overall quality of life by investing in sustainable long-term solutions that put the health and safety of residents first.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - During her time on Council, Priya has consistently pushed for more equitable representation on the City of Carlsbad’s committees and the city’s workforce generally. Priya has also advocated to include diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of Carlsbad’s core values to ensure that all issues and projects are viewed through that lens. 

Supporting Local Businesses - Priya has fueled our vibrant economy by supporting our local businesses, increasing access to capital, and creating new jobs.

Public Safety - Reimagine public safety through community-based partnerships and collaboration with police, fire, and emergency response teams.

Environment and Ecological Preserves - Protect our environment and ecological preserves by striving to achieve 100% renewable energy and zero waste. 

Climate Action Plan - Execute on our Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gases, implement renewable energy infrastructure, and meet targets for greener residential and commercial buildings. 

Mobility Plan - Provide more opportunities for outdoor activity by delivering on our Sustainable Mobility Plan through transportation strategies and our Trails Master plan. 

Collaboration - Collaborate with our neighboring cities to alleviate traffic congestion and improve access to public transportation for all. 

Growth Management Plan - Revisit our city’s Growth Management Plan to strike a balance between open space and protecting against overdevelopment.
