Palomar Airport

Since my first day on the City Council, I have been clear and consistent: I do not support expanding the runway at Palomar Airport or commercial flights.

My number one focus is protecting the quality of life of our residents.

Over the years, I have listened closely to families across Carlsbad who have raised serious and valid concerns about increased noise, traffic congestion, environmental impacts, and safety risks tied to airport expansion. These concerns directly impact daily life in our neighborhoods and residents deserve to be heard.

While some have pushed for growth at any cost, I have taken a different approach. I believe economic development must be balanced, responsible, and aligned with the character and long-term vision of our community. Expansion of Palomar Airport, as proposed, does not meet that standard.

In my time on the City Council, I have:

  • Consistently voiced opposition to runway expansion and commercial flight activity

  • Advocated for transparency and stronger community engagement in regional airport decisions

  • Supported efforts that prioritize mitigation of impacts over expansion

  • Worked to ensure that Carlsbad’s voice is heard in conversations led at the regional and county level

Let’s be clear: Palomar Airport already plays an important role in general aviation and regional connectivity. It's possible to both recognize its limits while protecting the people who live here.

I will continue to stand with our residents and advocate for policies that put our community first—not special interests, not outside pressures, but the people of Carlsbad.

Because growth without balance isn’t progress and our quality of life is worth protecting.
